VICTORY FOR GUN SAFETY: Amy Klobuchar Elected Governor of Minnesota

WASHINGTON - Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, declared a major victory today as voters elected U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar as Governor of Minnesota.

"Amy Klobuchar has spent nearly two decades in the Senate standing up to the gun lobby and fighting for safer communities, and now she brings that experience home to Minnesota," said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. "Everytown congratulates Governor-elect Klobuchar and looks forward to helping her pass the common-sense laws that will keep Minnesotans safe."

"Amy Klobuchar has never treated gun violence as someone else's problem, and Minnesota families have noticed," said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of Moms Demand Action. "As governor, she'll lead a state where moms, dads, and students have made their voices impossible to ignore. Our volunteers can't wait to get to work with her in St. Paul."

"Our kids are growing up in a state that has seen too much gun violence, and Minnesota parents have been asking our leaders to meet the moment," said Todd Jelen, a volunteer with the Minnesota chapter of Moms Demand Action. "Amy Klobuchar has always answered when families called, and now she'll do it as our governor. We'll be at her side in St. Paul."

This cycle, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Victory Fund, and the Democratic Governors Association, announced a $3 million effort to elect gun-sense governors in Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, and Wisconsin. Last cycle, Everytown helped elect former Moms Demand Action volunteer Abigail Spanberger as Governor of Virginia, and in her first legislative session, she signed a ban on the sale of assault weapons and 20 other gun safety bills into law.

Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund endorsed 503 gun safety champions running at every level of government, from statehouses to governor's offices. Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers made more than 15 million voter contacts to help elect them.
