Gilbert PD Fatal Shooting Investigation

Gilbert, AZ - The Gilbert Police Department has made an arrest following a fatal shooting that occurred the evening of Tuesday, August 12 at an extended stay motel located at 2350 W Obispo Avenue.

Shortly before 6:00 PM, multiple callers reported gunshots in the motel parking lot. Officers arrived and upon arrival, discovered an adult female victim with gunshot wounds. Life-saving measures were administered, and the victim was transported to the hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.

The alleged shooting subject, an adult male, had retreated into his motel room and barricaded himself by the time officers arrived. Officers learned that the victim and her husband had been living at the extended stay, as was the male subject, who occupied a nearby room.

Preliminary information indicates that the shooting occurred as the couple returned to the motel when the subject allegedly exited his room and opened fire.

Our GPD Special Assignment Unit responded quickly, and negotiators established communication with the subject. After about 30 minutes of negotiation efforts, he exited the room voluntarily and was taken into custody without incident.

This incident remains an active investigation.
