Ali Stinson

Teacher of Mathematics

Ali Stinson is a Moshannon Valley High School 2003 graduate and a graduaute of Clarion University of PA with a degree in Secondary Education Mathematics. She is married to Matt, and they have two children, Lainey (15) and Luke (13). She has been teaching high school Math for 22 years (1 year at DuBois (7th grade) and 21 years at Bellwood). She is the yearbook advisor, Renaissance club advisor, and softball coach. Her Mission: As a teacher for the last 22 years, my goal continues to be to build relationships with students that allow them to know that mistakes are vital to learning and growing and I will be there to help them every step of the way. I also became involved with the Jostens Renaissance Program that encourages students, staffulty and the community to work together to create "moments that matter". Over the last 7 years, this club has been involved in organizing and hosting our Back to School Bash, Homecoming activities, Safe Night Trick or Treat, and Day of Giving (community give back day before Thanksgiving). Over the last 4 years, our Homecoming activities have been coupled with the Sideline Cancer organization and have raised $30,000 for patients in our community battling cancer. The entire week brings our schools and community together for something "Bigger than the Crown" and "Bigger than the Game". It's truly a week of hope and light. I am so proud to be a part of these events and pray that together we can continue to impact our community in positive ways. My family and I are involved with the Sideline Cancer organization helping to spread awareness through travel softball teams. The teams play each tournament for someone battling cancer. This helps to keep in perspective that "we don't have to play, we get to play" and every time you step on the field is a gift and a blessing. Finally, Matt, Lainey, Luke and I are active members at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona. Our faith is the foundation of all we do and we always keep in mind Psalm 139:16 "It is already written." I am so sorry that I could not attend this banquet. I am honored, humbled and blessed to be named as a recipient of the Dr. John Powers Award. I pray God will continue to lead my work in and out of the classroom and that I can "Be the Light" (Matthew 5:14) for others. Thank you so very much!
