Commissioners recognize October 2025 as
Breast Cancer Awareness Month

FREEHOLD, NJ - The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners proclaimed October 2025 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month during a Workshop Meeting on Oct. 9.

The proclamation was presented to Nicole Pelliccia and Marianne Ruane from Breast Intentions New Jersey. According to their website, Breast Intentions is an all-volunteer charity that was started by two high school teens in 2007 who witnessed firsthand the struggles of treating breast cancer. The goal of Breast Intentions is to help cure the day-to-day financial strain that breast cancer diagnosis often brings, such as utility bills, car services, rental assistance and more.

"Breast Cancer Awareness Month began in 1985 with the mission of raising public awareness and encouraging annual screenings as part of a preventive health routine," said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone. "We believe it is imperative to support an ongoing effort dedicated to increasing public knowledge about the importance of early detection of breast cancer, which impacts so many families in our communities."

"Breast cancer awareness is critical to our public health mission here in Monmouth County and around the globe," said Commissioner Deputy Director Susan M. Kiley, liaison to the Department of Health and Human Services. "By educating the public and supporting early detection services, we take meaningful steps toward saving lives."
