Altoona faculty’s podcast explores horror and folklore with author Daisy Pearce

Penn State Altoona faculty members Brian Onishi and Jeff Stoyanoff have released a new episode of their "Horror Joy" podcast, featuring Terrell Dorsey, founder of the film production company Vault 81.

ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona faculty members Brian Onishi, associate professor of philosophy, and Jeff Stoyanoff, assistant professor of English and of women's, gender and sexuality studies, have released a new episode of their "Horror Joy" podcast. In the latest episode, the hosts welcome guest Daisy Pearce, author of "Something in the Walls," "The Missing" and "The Silence."

Pearce shares her thoughts on how horror provides a safe outlet for experiencing fear and anxiety, and discusses her origins and influences as a writer. The episode explores the different cultural approaches to folklore in the United States and the United Kingdon, the power dynamics behind traditions and the challenges of writing horror, especially from a female perspective. Pearce also touches on her interest in ghost hunting and shares some recent horror media that has brought her joy.
