FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Less than a year after launching the Irvine Cares Family Housing Assistance Program, the City of Irvine and its partners have been recognized for their collaborative efforts to provide safe and stable housing for local families experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
The program - a partnership between the City of Irvine, the Irvine Unified School District, Irvine Company, and Jamboree Housing Corporation - was honored with the Public-Private Partnership Award by the Orange County Business Council through its Turning Red Tape into Red Carpet Awards program. The recognition was presented last month at the Disneyland Hotel.
The Irvine Cares Family Housing Assistance Program provides access to affordable housing for families identified through the federal McKinney-Vento Act as experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity. Eligible participants include families with children enrolled in the Irvine Unified School District who are referred to the City through the district's McKinney-Vento list.
"Irvine has always looked for innovative solutions to complex challenges," said Mayor Larry Agran. "We are grateful to our partners in this effort - the Irvine Unified School District, Irvine Company, and Jamboree Housing Corporation - for their collaboration and shared commitment to supporting local families. I look forward to our continued partnership as we help more residents build a path toward long-term stability."
Through the program, families receive housing along with comprehensive supportive services designed to promote housing stability and long-term self-sufficiency. Services include housing navigation, tenancy and sustainability support, life-skills and workforce training, and enhanced care management. Once a participating family is able to transition to market-rate housing, the housing unit is returned to the City to assist another family in need.
Since its launch, the program has placed 19 families - representing 71 residents, including 43 children - into stable housing. Each family is paired with a dedicated case manager to support progress toward financial independence, educational success, and overall well-being.
Funded in part through Homeless Housing, Assistance and Prevention (HHAP) grant funding and made possible through a strong public-private collaboration, the initiative highlights Irvine's ongoing commitment to supporting education and enhancing the health and quality of life of residents.
