Environmental Assessment students from Minnesota State University, Mankato visited Guardian Energy on March 20 to gain insight into the ethanol production process.
"We were delighted to welcome students from Mankato State University to our facility today," said Jeanne McCaherty, CEO of Guardian Energy. "With today's tour, we were able to showcase how we sustainably transform corn - a local, renewable feedstock - into clean energy and co-products, strengthening our rural economies, reducing carbon emissions, alleviating prices at the pump, and promoting energy independence."
During the hour-long visit, students observed multiple stages of the ethanol production process, including grain grading and handling, fermentation, grain and distillers grain storage, and ethanol storage and shipment.
Fifteen students, comprised of college sophomores, juniors and seniors, were accompanied by Mankato State University assistant professor of environmental science, Sue Colvin. The tour was organized by the Minnesota Bio-Fuels Association (MN Bio-Fuels), of which Guardian Energy is a member.
"My students learned about the ethanol production process, as well as what the environmental and safety regulations Guardian Energy follows throughout production," said Sue Colvin.
