As Vance Heads to OH-09, Trump’s Toxic Agenda Has Already Cost Ohio Families More than $1,500 Arrow

Last week, Cook Political Report shifted OH-09 in Democrats' favor, underscoring Democratic momentum ahead of the 2026 midterms

Today, JD Vance will travel to Ohio's 9th Congressional District to try to sell Trump's disastrous economic policies. While Donald Trump thinks affordability is a "hoax" and "con job," OH-09 families know how terrible Trump's first year in office has been, from paying more than $1,500 on the basics due to skyrocketing health care premiums. Last time JD Vance crossed paths with OH-09 Rep. Marcy Kaptur, she called him out for showing up to a UAW picket line only for the cameras.

A reminder: New polling on Donald Trump's first year shows that twice as many Americans say Trump is focused on the wrong priorities as the right ones, and a staggering 6 in 10 U.S. adults think Trump has done more to hurt than help the cost of living in his second term.

In response, DNC Spokesperson Albert Fujii released the following statement:

"Today, JD Vance will try to gaslight Ohioans about Trump's toxic economic agenda, but Ohio families know he's a cheap fraud and won't buy his B.S. Ohio families are paying thousands more for the basics because of Donald Trump and JD Vance and losing their health care. While JD Vance jetsets across the globe in $10,000 a week English manors and takes more vacations in two months than most Americans get in a year, working families in Ohio are paying the price. Unlike JD Vance and Ohio Republicans, Democrats won't stop fighting to lower costs for Ohio families and protect their health care."

Trump's toxic economic policies have caused costs to skyrocket:

  • The average Ohio family has lost $1,532 due to Trump's inflation in his first year back in office.
  • Ohio families will lose an additional $1,060 per year due to Trump's Big Ugly Bill and chaotic tariffs.

Trump and Vance have created a health care crisis:

  • Trump's Big Ugly Bill cuts Medicaid by more than $1 trillion, which 216,500 OH-09 residents rely on, including 75,400 children and 17,300 seniors.
  • In total, 32,000 district individuals will lose health insurance due to the Big Ugly Bill.
  • To make matters worse, an additional 500,000 Ohio families rely on enhanced ACA premium tax credits, which Trump refuses to extend. Because of Trump and Vance's refusal, these families are seeing their premiums skyrocket.

Trump is also increasing food costs:

  • Trump's Big Ugly Bill cuts SNAP by nearly $200 billion, a vital food assistance program that 45,281 families rely on in OH-09.
  • In total, in OH-09, 44% of SNAP recipients are households with a child, and 37% of recipients are households with an elderly person.
