Customers can get ahead of rising energy bills with Entergy Mississippi resources

JACKSON, Mississippi - As energy costs are on the rise nationwide, two fuel factors are driving an increase for Entergy Mississippi customers: higher projected natural gas prices and a lower fuel reduction adjustment.

Fuel costs are one of many factors that impact customers' energy bills, with usage being another leading contributor. Nearly 70% of the electricity Entergy Mississippi produces is generated using natural gas and we never mark up fuel costs, so customers pay exactly what we pay. Over the last year, customers have received a fuel reduction adjustment due to a prior period of over-recovery of fuel costs and lower natural gas prices. This resulted in a credit to customer bills of $8.36 per month, or a more than $100 savings in 2025. Now, because of higher natural gas prices and the end of the credit, starting in February the typical residential customer using 1,000 kWh per month will pay about $165 per month, or $14.22 more per month.

"We know how important it is that we safely deliver reliable power at an affordable price to our customers whether it is a family or a business," said Haley Fisackerly, president and CEO, Entergy Mississippi. "While we cannot control the price of fuel, we are committed to helping our customers manage their electricity usage, not only through access to resources and services that they can take action on themselves, but also through the investments we are making that are helping drive down costs - other than fuel - for all our customers."

The fuel increase was approved by the Mississippi Public Service Commission and comes after last year's lower rates due to lower natural gas prices, which have helped keep Entergy Mississippi's rates below the national average. We forecast the cost of natural gas, which is built into rates once per year. Due to fluctuations in those prices, we may either over-recover or under-recover these costs during the course of the year, which results in a fuel adjustment. The amount that was over-recovered has already been returned to customers, resulting in a lower fuel reduction adjustment on customers' bills beginning in February. This, combined with higher natural gas prices, makes up the fuel increase.
