Jordan-EU Security and Defence Dialogue

On 4 February 2026, the first EU-Jordan Security and Defence Dialogue took place in Amman. The establishment of this Dialogue was agreed in the EU-Jordan Strategic Comprehensive Partnership of January 2025. Following the first EU-Jordan Summit on 8 January 2026, the Dialogue marks another step to further enhancing this key partnership by strengthening cooperation on a wide range of peace, security and defence matters of common interest.

The delegations exchanged on respective peace and security initiatives, sharing views on ongoing developments and possible common approaches, notably in Gaza/Occupied Palestinian Territories, Syria, Lebanon and Ukraine. Among others, the EU and Jordan agreed to increase their cooperation on the training of Palestinian Civil Police officers for deployment to Gaza, under the US-led Comprehensive Plan and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803.

The EU and Jordanian representatives furthermore engaged on several areas of cooperation, such as maritime security in the Red Sea and the upholding of international maritime law; countering of terrorism, including through the prevention of radicalisation and violent extremism and cooperation in multilateral fora; and EU substantial support to the Jordanian Armed Forces through the European Peace Facility.

Both sides reaffirmed their willingness to cooperate for long-term stability, peace and security, multilateral order and underlined the need for respect for international law and international humanitarian law.

The meeting was co-chaired by the European External Action Service's Deputy Secretary General for Peace, Security and Defence, Charles Fries, and the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, His Excellency Daifallah Al-Fayez.

The EU-Jordan Security and Defence Dialogue takes place on a regular basis, alternately in Amman and Brussels.
