Congressman Gabe Evans Secures Return of USDA Farm Service Agency office for Weld County Farmers

WASHINGTON - Congressman Gabe Evans (CO-08) announced today that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) will reestablish a new Farm Service Agency (FSA) office location in Greeley, Colorado, restoring critical federal services to Weld County farmers.

The announcement follows months of engagement between Congressman Evans and USDA officials to ensure agricultural producers in Colorado's Eighth District have direct access to the federal resources they rely on to recover from disasters, maintain water and soil health, and strengthen America's food supply. It also comes shortly after Congressman Evans secured report language in the FY 2026 Agriculture Appropriations bill, signed into law last November, that urged the USDA to reopen this critically important office.

"Farmers are the backbone of America, and Weld County is the epicenter of Colorado agriculture and American-grown food. There should not be a world where there is not a FSA office in Greeley, and I am incredibly proud to have worked alongside USDA to advocate for and deliver this critical resource to the farmers and producers who keep Colorado's agriculture strong and power our local economy."- Congressman Gabe Evans (CO-08)

"Representative Evans has been a strong advocate for the farm families and producers in CO-08, and wanted to make certain they had an accessible county office to explore the services provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. When he brought this to my attention months ago, Departmental Administration, the Farm Production and Conservation mission area, and I worked to analyze the need, subsequently validating that an office in Weld County was indeed a necessity to the community. Weeks ago, a contract was signed, and in the near future, it will open its doors." - Deputy Secretary Stephen Alexander Vaden

The FSA office will serve as a local hub that will provide farmers and ranchers with better access to federal programs many already utilize, including:

  • Disaster assistance and recovery programs

  • Farm ownership and operating loans

  • Conservation and water management programs

  • Farm registration and risk management services

These programs are critical for producers navigating unpredictable weather, drought conditions and market volatility.

Weld County is the leading agricultural producer in Colorado and ranks among the top agricultural counties in the nation. The county produces approximately 57 percent of Colorado's milk and is a major hub for cattle, dairy, and crops including corn, hay, wheat, and sugar beets - making it a key contributor to both regional and national food security.

Background

In May 2024, the USDA Service Center previously located in Greeley was temporarily relocatedto Fort Collins, leaving Weld County producers without a local office despite the county's outsized role in agriculture production.

Recognizing the impact this had on local producers, Congressman Evans made restoring a Greeley USDA office a top priority, working directly with USDA leadership and through the congressional appropriations process to reestablish a local office closer to the farmers and ranchers who depend on these programs.

Weld County, located in Colorado's Eighth District, ranks 8th nationally in agriculture output and is home to approximately 4,000 farms and 2.5 million acres of agricultural land, generating more than $1 billion annually in agricultural production, including beef, diary, grains, sugar beets, and specialty crops.

Additionally, Coloradans are worried about the lack of precipitation this winter leading to more dry conditions as we approach warmer months. In the face of exacerbated drought and wildfire risks, Weld County farmers need FSA support now more than ever.

The new office location will be 6500 W 29th St, Greeley, CO. Congressman Evans is grateful to USDA for being so responsive to his advocacy for this evident local need, and is proud to deliver impactful results for farmers and ranchers. We look forward to the opening of the new office and working with USDA to ensure the office has the resources they need to best support the Weld County community.
