PHILADELPHIA, PA - Today, Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) and Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-03) held a virtual press conference calling on President Trump to fire DHS Secretary Kristi Noem after DHS immigration agents killed two Americans in Minneapolis in recent weeks. Boyle and Evans are both cosponsors of impeachment articles against Secretary Noem.
"I am hereby calling upon President Trump to fire Kristi Noem if she doesn't have the dignity and good sense to resign. All of this has happened under her watch. She must resign or be fired. If neither of those things happen, then Congress should take steps to impeach her and convict her in the Senate so we can remove her from office," said Congressman Boyle. "We are being ripped apart as a country. These tactics that we are seeing on the streets of Minneapolis must not be replicated either here in Philadelphia or anywhere else throughout our country. We can no longer continue to give Homeland Security a blank check."
Boyle and Evans stressed that accountability must be immediate - and that DHS misconduct threatens communities here in Philadelphia, too. They also renewed their call for Senators Fetterman and McCormick to oppose the DHS funding bill unless it includes real reforms and safeguards to protect American lives.
"I'd like to first thank Congressman Boyle for all his effort in leading this effort and all seven Democrats from Pennsylvania who are united on this. We deserve major protections for the Homeland Security funding, and it should not pass the Senate in its current form," said Congressman Evans. "We should send a message that no Americans should be dying the way that they are. And we encourage both senators from Pennsylvania to join with us regarding this action."
