Florida Department of Education Awards Over $24 Million to Expand Workforce Development Programs

Tallahassee, Fla., January 8, 2025 - The Florida Department of Education, under the leadership of Commissioner Manny Diaz, Jr., awarded over $24 million through the Workforce Development Capitalization Incentive Grant Program (Workforce CAP). This investment brings the total funding for workforce education initiatives under Workforce CAP to nearly $190 million since its inception in 2023.

"Under Governor Ron DeSantis' steadfast leadership, Florida continues to prioritize transformative investments in career and technical education," said Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. "This funding is expanding important workforce education programs in high-demand industries, creating new opportunities for students across Florida."

Workforce CAP funding supports the creation and expansion of workforce development programs across the state, offering students in high school and post-secondary education programs hands-on training in high-demand industries.

Institutions receiving the Workforce CAP Grant Awards include:

• Broward County School District ($223,151): Funding will assist programs focused on Aerospace Technology, Industrial Biotechnology and more.
• Clay County School District ($1,258,875): Funding will assist programs focused on the Automotive Industry, Aviation Assembly and Fabrication and more.
• Duval County School District ($7,424,005): Funding will assist programs focused on Automotive, Cybersecurity and more.
• Gilchrist County School District ($1,848,142): Funding will assist programs focused on Agritechnology and Technical Agriculture Operations.
• Hillsborough County School District ($2,447,279): Funding will assist programs focused on 3D Animation Technology, Applied Robotics and more.
• Okaloosa County School District ($274,904): Funding will assist programs focused on Animal Science and Services and Entrepreneurship.
• Putnam County School District ($1,185,015): Funding will assist programs focused on Engineering Pathways.
• St. Johns County School District ($1,195,255): Funding will assist programs focused on Manufacturing, Aerospace and more.
• Sarasota County School District ($1,145,000): Funding will assist programs focused on Engineering and Building Trades and Construction.
• Seminole County School District ($2,781,400): Funding will assist programs for Emergency Medical Responder and Firefighting.
• Eastern Florida State College ($945,000): Funding will assist programs focused on Aerospace, Computer Science and more.
• Broward County School District Career Dual-Enrollment ($1,099,000): Funding will assist programs focused on Information Technology, Automotive Service Technology and Healthcare.
• Pasco County School District Career Dual-Enrollment ($924,960): Funding will assist programs focused on Cybersecurity and Healthcare.
• Santa Rosa County School District Career Dual-Enrollment ($73,090): Funding will assist programs focused on Welding Technology.
• Sarasota County School District Career Dual-Enrollment ($707,500): Funding will assist programs focused on HVAC.
• Seminole State College of Florida Career Dual-Enrollment ($780,995): Funding will assist programs focused on Automotive Service Management Technology and Network Systems Technology.

The Workforce CAP Grant Program is instrumental in establishing and expanding CTE programs that lead to industry-recognized certifications on the CAPE Industry Certification Funding List. These funds ensure that students across Florida have access to the tools, resources and training necessary to thrive in emerging industries and meet the demands of Florida's growing economy.
