On Wednesday, President Gitanas Nausėda spoke by telephone with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine.
During the conversation, the President reiterated that Lithuania would continue to provide strong support to Ukraine through military, political, and humanitarian assistance, and reaffirmed his determination to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of defense.
The President emphasized that, as in previous years, Lithuania will maintain its annual commitment to allocate 0.25% of GDP to military aid. In 2025, Lithuania has already provided €132 million in military assistance.
The two leaders also discussed Ukraine's energy security and the issue of ensuring gas supplies to Ukraine. President Nausėda underlined that Lithuania is ready to take the necessary decisions to guarantee a continuous supply of liquefied natural gas to Ukraine via the Klaipėda LNG terminal.
The President stressed that Lithuania seeks to achieve as much tangible progress as possible in the negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union by the end of this year. According to the President, the 2030 target date for Ukraine's EU membership, which he has proposed, is a key priority for Lithuania, which continues to actively pursue this goal both at the EU level in cooperation with other member states and bilaterally with the EU Presidency, Denmark.
