Despite decades of advances in drilling and hydraulic fracturing, including triple-frac, much of the oil contained in shale and tight formations remains unrecovered.

What began as a laboratory effort at Chevron has now been deployed in hundreds of wells across North America.

These new technologies show how continued innovation can help unlock oil that would otherwise remain trapped underground.

"We're proud of our accomplishments with advanced chemicals, but we're not done," said Jitendra Kikani, Chevron's vice president of subsurface.
