Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, Dr. Ani Yazedjian, has appointed Dr. Caroline Mallory to serve a one-year term as interim dean of the Mennonite College of Nursing (MCN), effective July 14, 2025. She will succeed Dr. Judy Neubrander, who has served as dean since 2016.
"We are pleased to welcome Dr. Mallory back to Illinois State to serve as the interim dean of the Mennonite College of Nursing while a national search is conducted," said Yazedjian. "I also want to express my appreciation to Dr. Judy Neubrander for her commitment and service to MCN over the last nine years."
Mallory has served as dean of the College of Health and Human Services at Indiana State University since 2017. During her tenure in that role, she led operational, budgetary, and advancement initiatives to ensure the success of more than 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students, 76 full-time faculty, and 47 full-time staff across 12 disciplines and 24 degree programs. She facilitated the acquisition of over $2.5 million in private and corporate donations and $4.89 million in external funding. Mallory was integral to the accreditation of the physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training, nursing, and social work programs.
Mallory completed bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing at the University of Illinois - Chicago and earned her Ph.D. in nursing science with a minor in women's studies from Indiana University. She completed her postdoctoral research training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research in HIV prevention has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Illinois Department of Public Health.
Mallory is the author of more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and presentations with a focus on prevention, as well as public health and women's health. She is an accomplished educator, having taught across undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs in the classroom and in clinical settings. She is co-author of Statistics for Evidence-based Practice in Nursing, an introductory statistics text for graduate students.
"What an honor to be able to return to Illinois State University, where my career as a faculty member and administrator was launched," Mallory said. "It will be a privilege to serve MCN and give back a little of what I received there."
