Dr. Gino Sedillo, Dr. Alessandro Golino and Dr. Eugene Parent
Manatee Memorial Hospital proudly announces a historic achievement in structural heart care. The hospital's Cardiac Catheterization Department has successfully performed a record-breaking 10 mitral TEER (Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair) procedures in a single day, setting a new national milestone as confirmed by Abbott Laboratories.
This remarkable accomplishment was made possible through the expertise of our distinguished cardiologists - Dr. Alessandro Golino, Dr. Gino Sedillo and Dr. Eugene Parent - working in collaboration with our dedicated anesthesia team and the highly skilled staff of the Cardiac Cath Lab. Their dedication, precision and teamwork made this milestone possible and continues to advance our mission of delivering high-quality heart care.
TEER therapy is a minimally invasive leaflet repair procedure used to treat patients with severe mitral and/or tricuspid regurgitation, conditions in which the heart's valves do not close properly, causing blood to leak backward. Unlike open-heart surgery, TEER does not require chest incisions or stopping the heart. This can result in a shorter recovery, less risk for patients and a faster return to daily activities.* Research shows that patients undergoing TEER are 2.5 times more likely to experience significant improvements in health-related quality of life compared to those receiving other therapies.¹
Manatee Memorial Hospital is no stranger to leading-edge achievements in cardiac care. In 2024, the hospital ranked #1 in Florida for MitraClip™ implants, while Dr. Golino was recognized by Abbott Laboratories as the #1 MitraClip™ implanter in both the United States and worldwide. Today's new record underscores Manatee Memorial's continued leadership in advancing innovative, lifesaving cardiac therapies.
"Our Structural Heart Team's achievement demonstrates not only technical excellence but also an unwavering commitment to improving patients' lives," said Andy Guz, CEO. "This milestone reflects the skill, collaboration and compassion of everyone involved."
