Congressman Meeks Reintroduces "The Mortgage Insurance Freedom Act"

I am proud to reintroduce The Mortgage Insurance Freedom Act. Presently, the Federal Housing Administration mortgage insurance premium (MIP) costs millions of families. If enacted, the bill would enable homeowners to discontinue their MIP payments to the FHA once they have built up a certain amount of equity in their property. This will make home ownership more affordable and allow Americans to keep more of their hard-earned money.

It was great to join Assemblywoman Alicia L. Hyndman for Community Day in NY-05. These events give families the chance to enjoy food, music, and activities while building connections with local leaders and learning about community resources.

Honoring A Servant Leader at Street Renaming Event

Alyce L. Feurtado dedicated her life to educating, mentoring, and serving others, leaving a lasting impact in the Queens community. In her honor, 142nd Street is now Alyce L. Feurtado Way. I was proud to celebrate her legacy with NYC Speaker Adrienne Adams at the street renaming event.

Ranking Member Meeks Issues Statement on Conclusion of Markup of State Department Authorization Bills 

"While I believe that Chairman Mast agrees it is this committee's duty to regularly authorize State, the process he undertook this year broke long-standing bipartisan precedent. Democrats were excluded from the drafting process, resulting in a hastily assembled product that lacked proper consultation or oversight. The amendment process only made matters worse-loading the bill with partisan poison pills while failing to authorize a single dollar in top-line funding. Instead of strengthening American diplomacy, Republicans used this markup to provide cover for the Trump administration's reckless campaign to hollow out the State Department and USAID."
