UNESCO ADG Dr. Tawfik Jelassie lauds Community Media, efforts to enhance Digital Access in Zimbabwe

The mission also highlighted transformative progress in remote parts of Manicaland province, where Dr. Jelassi visited infrastructure supporting Ndau FM. Upgrades to a telecommunications tower implemented by Transmedia Corporation, with support from the United Nations Development Programme, have expanded the station's reach to more than 65,000 people and introduced mobile connectivity to previously isolated communities, demonstrating the power of partnerships in closing the digital divide.

In Harare, Dr. Jelassi held high-level talks with Zimbabwe's Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda Mavetera, reaffirming UNESCO's commitment to supporting the implementation of the country's National Artificial Intelligence Strategy. Developed with UNESCO's technical assistance, the strategy is expected to strengthen AI governance, build digital skills, and help Zimbabwe harness emerging technologies for sustainable development.
