UK Biobank has reached a major milestone in its groundbreaking imaging study, completing scans of 100,000 volunteers to create the world's largest dataset of brain, heart and organ images. With support from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and Calico, the project is now entering its next phase: tracking how bodies change over time to better understand aging and disease onset.
The CZI-backed imaging expansion enables researchers worldwide to access anonymized data and apply AI to uncover early signs of conditions like dementia, heart disease and depression. The effort builds on nearly two decades of UK Biobank research, now fueling over 17,000 studies and transforming how science predicts and prevents disease.
