Amazon signs Germany's largest-ever power purchase agreement, invests in new wind energy projects in Sweden
In Germany, Amazon has agreed to purchase 600 megawatts of carbon-free electricity from the Gennaker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea. By agreeing to this purchase, Amazon will give the developers the financial certainty needed to move forward with construction of the project. Amazon has also signed four PPAs in Sweden, bringing its total carbon-free energy capacity in the country to nearly 1 GW-equivalent to powering more than 350,000 Swedish households every year.

The expansion deepens their work across AI factories, CPUs, networking, open models, data processing, and robotics-including bringing NVIDIA Vera CPU-based infrastructure to AWS, connecting Trainium chips with NVLink Fusion, and building secure AI factories for the U.S. government. These co-engineered solutions help customers accelerate AI development at unprecedented scale across agentic AI, scientific discovery, enterprise automation, and physical AI.

Ring has introduced TAKE (Throw Away the Key Encryption), a new default encryption standard for home security video. Inspired by end-to-end encryption principles, TAKE uses unique, rotating encryption keys that Ring temporarily accesses within a secure enclave to power smart features, then deletes. TAKE will roll out in phases starting September, becoming the default for all Ring customers worldwide, while E2EE remains an optional setting.

AWS has signed a definitive agreement to acquire DuckLabs, the company behind the open source analytical database DuckDB. Co-founders Hannes Mühleisen and Mark Raasveldt will join AWS and continue leading the team. DuckDB itself remains free and open source under the MIT license and the independent DuckDB Foundation.
