Animal Services expresses gratitude for bequests honoring lifelong compassion
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Fayetteville Animal Services is deeply grateful to announce the receipt of several generous bequests this year totaling $447,000, each honoring individuals whose lives reflected compassion, service and a love for animals and community.
These gifts will have a lasting impact on the care, enrichment and outcomes for Fayetteville Animal Shelter pets now and in the future.
"We are profoundly thankful for these bequests and the legacies behind them," Animal Services Superintendent Justine Lentz said. "Each gift represents a life well lived and a commitment to making Fayetteville a more compassionate place - for people and for animals.
"We are honored to steward these funds in a way that reflects the values of the donors."
The bequests were made by the following individuals:
Frank S. Price - $12,000
A retired teacher with a lifelong passion for teaching, learning and creating, Frank spent his free time working on cars and, later in life, crafting unique mobile art from scrap materials. After retiring, he moved to Butterfield Trail Village, where he enjoyed hiking, gardening, stained glass and creative pursuits. His curiosity and creativity will continue to inspire through this thoughtful gift.
Betty Miller - $175,000
Betty began her career at Herman's Ribhouse, where she met her husband, Allan L. Miller. Later, she dedicated many years to Campbell Soup through multiple company transitions. Known for her kindness, honesty, strong work ethic and sense of humor, Betty found joy in walking her beloved dog, Grace, tending her garden and feeding the birds. Her bequest reflects her deep appreciation for animals and simple, meaningful joys.
Susan J. Shelton - $250,000
A Fayetteville High School graduate, Susan served as an elementary music teacher with the Springdale School District, floating between T.G. Smith and Parson Hills, until her retirement in 2014. An animal lover throughout her entire life, her extraordinary generosity will make a significant and lasting difference for shelter pets in our community.
Barbara Starr Roberts - $10,000
Barbara graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1956 and earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas, pursuing a career in social work. She dedicated many years to Fayetteville Public Schools and quietly supported shelter pets each winter by donating warm blankets. Her gift honors a lifetime of service and compassion.
"These individuals remembered Fayetteville Animal Services in their final plans, and that is a responsibility we do not take lightly," Lentz said. "Their generosity will help provide comfort, medical care, enrichment and second chances for countless animals."
Animal Services extends its heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of these donors and sincere thanks for choosing to create a legacy of kindness that will continue to benefit animals and the community for years to come.
