Washington State University announces the appointment of Terri Parr Wynecoop as the interim executive director & presidential liaison for tribal relations effective immediately. Parr will serve as WSU's senior leader for government-to-government relations with Native American Tribes.
"Maintaining and strengthening our partnerships with the sovereign Tribal Nations of the region is a foundational priority for Washington State University," said President Elizabeth Cantwell. "Terri brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to collaboration that will be critical as we continue to advance shared priorities in education, research, and community development. Her understanding of the policy and cultural landscape necessary to effectively guide WSU's Tribal engagement efforts are incredibly valuable to WSU. We are fortunate to have her leadership during this transition period."
Reporting directly to President Cantwell, this role will provide strategic oversight of the Office of Tribal Relations and represent the university in all matters related to Tribal engagement and consultation. Parr is a member of the Coeur d'Alene Tribe and has served as tribal liaison for apecial projects with WSU since summer of 2023 following nearly two decades with the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians.
The appointment of Terri Parr Wynecoop is an important step in reinforcing WSU's mission to fulfill its commitments to the Tribal Nations and advance a future grounded in respect, partnership, and shared success.
A national search for the permanent Executive Director & Presidential Liaison for Tribal Relations will be posted by December 15, 2025.
