In recognition of the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, DNC Chair Ken Martin and DNC Vice Chair Artie Blanco released the following statement:
"Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to honor the contributions that Latinos have made to our country throughout its history. As Democrats, we celebrate the people, cultures, and traditions that make our communities stronger as well as the trailblazers who have broken barriers in every field, and of course, the brave men and women who have served - and continue to serve - our nation in uniform.
"This month and every month, Democrats are working to advance solutions so that every Latino family can thrive, whether by increasing wages, bringing down the cost of living, expanding housing opportunities, improving access to health care, investing in our public schools, delivering on the promise of immigration reform and good jobs to help support all American families. The Hispanic community is not a monolith, which is why, as we put forward solutions to the problems that we face, we will continue to call out Republicans who relentlessly attack Latinos with harmful policies that direct law enforcement to detain people who look Latino,, separate parents from their children, rip health care and food from families,, and make it unsafe to be Latino in America.
"Donald Trump and Republicans are also seeing their support among Latino voters crater because they are failing to deliver on the promise of bringing down costs and growing jobs in America. Democrats know that Latinos are not just votes to rely on; they are valued members of our communities who must be heard and supported. As we strive to make the American Dream possible for everyone - including our fellow Hispanic neighbors - let us put to rest any doubt where Democrats stand: on the side of hardworking Americans and a country where your last name, or the color of your skin, does not determine whether the government is on your side or not."
