Little people, big hearts - Library initiative connects generations

Little people on the Northern Beaches are bridging the generation gap one handmade paper flower bouquet at a time as part of a Library initiative.

During October, Council's regular Crafternoons across our six libraries will invite primary school-aged children to create paper flower bouquets and write heartfelt messages, which will be included with book deliveries for older residents using the popular Home Library Service.

The Home Library Service brings the library to people in our community who can't visit one of our branches due to age, illness, disability, or care responsibilities and have a personally selected range of books delivered to their front door.

By bringing together young and older community members, the initiative helps spread kindness, strengthen connections and reduce the sense of isolation that some older residents may experience.

The handcrafted bouquets will be delivered to Home Library Service customers in the week leading up to Grandparents Day on Sunday 25 October.

All sessions run from 3.30pm to 4.30pm on the following dates:

• Manly Library: Tuesday 29 September and Tuesday 13 October
• Dee Why and Glen Street Libraries: Wednesday 30 September and Wednesday 14 October
• Mona Vale and Warringah Mall Libraries: Thursday 1 October and Thursday 15 October
• Forestville Library: Monday 12 October
