State Superintendent Appoints New Harrison County Schools Superintendent

Charleston, W.Va. - State Superintendent of Schools Michele L. Blatt has appointed Dr. Sheena Van Meter to serve as the new superintendent of Harrison County Schools (HCS), effective Oct. 1, 2026, following the retirement announcement of HCS Superintendent Dora Stutler. Dr. Van Meter has served as the superintendent of Hardy County Schools since 2017.

Dr. Van Meter has more than 20 years of experience in public education. She began her career as a teacher and has held several leadership positions, including assistant principal, principal and assistant superintendent. Dr. Van Meter holds a master's degree in special education and a doctorate in Transformational Leadership from Marymount University. She is a wife and mother of three whose faith is central to both her life and leadership.

"Dr. Van Meter brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise that will guide her efforts in ensuring the success, academic growth and career readiness of the students of Harrison County Schools," said Superintendent Blatt. "She is an advocate of our children and our public schools, and her career reflects her dedication to building a robust system that best serves our communities and our state. I am certain she will continue her record of hard work and success for Harrison County."
