HARRISBURG - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission's (PUC's) Bureau of Audits conducted six audits and efficiency investigations of utility companies that identified actual savings of $2 million annually with an additional one-time savings of $2.8 million and further projected additional savings of $3.27 million annually and $1.25 million one-time for Pennsylvania's utilities and consumers, according to its most recent annual report.

The Commission voted 5-0 today to publish its Fiscal Year 2024-25 annual report on PUC management audits (MAs) and management efficiency investigations (MEIs), which work to identify efficiencies and savings for utilities, including potential improvements in operations, service reliability and safety programs.

This most recent report identified a number of savings or benefits after implementation of both prior and current audit recommendations, including:

  • Prior Recommendations: realized $2 million in annual savings and $2.8 million in one-time savings.

  • Current Recommendations: projected $3.27 million in annual savings and $1.25 million in one-time savings.

During the 2024-25 Fiscal Year, the Bureau of Audits completed MAs on PPL Electric Utilities, National Fuel Gas, Veolia Water Pennsylvania, and Newtown Artesian Water. Additionally, the Bureau of Audits conducted a MEI of Aqua Pennsylvania and Peoples Natural Gas (under the umbrella of Essential Utilities.)
