WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) joined Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) and Senate Republican colleagues this week in introducing the Back the Blue Act, which would increase penalties for criminals who target law enforcement officers and provide new tools for officers to protect themselves.

"The Back the Blue Act strengthens protections for our men and women in blue by ensuring criminals who target them face justice, including the death penalty. This bill upholds law and order, equips officers with the tools they need to stay safe, and makes it clear that anyone who attacks law enforcement will be held accountable."
