Port Angeles, Wash. - On November 15, 2024, Olympic National Park published a Memorandum of Agreement describing mitigations for the adverse impacts of a water infrastructure project on Hurricane Ridge. To view the document, visit the Planning, Environment, and Public Comment website: https://parkplanning.nps.gov/ HRWRMOA
Beginning in the spring of 2025, Olympic National Park will rehabilitate the water system in the Hurricane Ridge developed area. The rehabilitation work may impact two archaeological sites that have significance for the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe, Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe, and Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe. Olympic National Park has consulted with the Tribes and the Washington State Historic Preservation Officer to identify mitigations for those impacts. The Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe, Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe, and Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe have been invited to sign the Memorandum of Agreement to agree to the proposed mitigations as concurring parties.
The public review period will be open from Friday, November 15 to Saturday, November 30, 2024.
