PHILADELPHIA - The Pennsylvania State Senate gathered today for a rare meeting at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia to honor America's 250th birthday, including Sen. Dave Argall (R-29).
Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward presided over the meeting, which included students from across the state as part of a partnership with America250PA.
Argall introduced a resolution commemorating Independence National Park in Philadelphia for hosting the meeting and was joined by Max Almanzar-Castillo, a sophomore at Hazleton Area Academy of the Sciences. Max is the son of Maximo Almanzar and Shaskya Castillo.
"America 250 is not only a way to reflect on our country's rich history, but to ensure the stories and contributions of our commonwealth and local communities live on," said Argall. "I was honored to recognize the most historic square mile in the U.S., Independence National Park, and to share this experience with Max, an outstanding student from Hazleton."
Today marked only the fourth Senate meeting in the last 100 years outside of the State Capitol in Harrisburg. The previous three meetings were also held in Philadelphia to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the signing of Declaration of Independence in 1926, the 200th anniversary of the Declaration's signing in 1976 and the 200th anniversary of the adoption of the U.S. Constitution in September 1987.
