NEW ECONOMIC DATA: Inflation Climbs Again As Consumer Sentiment Remains at Dismal Levels Arrow

New economic data released today is another blaring warning sign of Donald Trump's failing economy. Consumer sentiment remains at a dismal level as Americans worry about soaring inflation and a frozen job market, and their assessments of the economy fall to an all-time low.

New PCE inflation data from September - released today after being delayed for months due to Trump's government shutdown - showed that PCE inflation increased 0.3% compared to August, rising to a 2.8% inflation rate. The reports come just one day after new data showed the total number of job cuts in 2025 hit nearly 1.2 million, as layoffs reached pandemic levels.

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:

"Donald Trump is singlehandedly wrecking the economy, leaving millions of working families struggling to stay afloat. Everyday Americans are watching prices climb and jobs vanish as they dip even further into their savings to make ends meet. And what is Trump doing to help? He's mocking Americans by calling affordability a 'hoax.' While Trump sends the economy spiraling, Democrats have shown up to work to lower prices and make Americans' lives more affordable."

Trump again claimed this week that he "fixed inflation" and "affordability is a con job." Meanwhile, consumers are facing skyrocketing grocery prices, utility bills, and health care costs, and a record number of Americans are taking on credit card debt amid a historically expensive holiday season.

Voters know that Trump is to blame for the dismal economy: 65% of Americans believe that Trump's policies are making grocery prices go up, and more Americans trust Democrats to reduce prices than Republicans. To make matters worse for Trump, nearly 1-in-5 of Trump voters believe the president bears full responsibility for the souring economy.
