Minnesota State Moorhead will host a sash ceremony for our diverse graduating students on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 5 p.m. in the university's Comstock Memorial Union Room 105.
President Tim Downs and Interim Provost & Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs Ok-Hee Lee will recognize graduating international and domestic students who identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Color, LGBTQIA2S+, or intersectional. Students will receive a sash representing their country of citizenship or affinity.
"Graduating is more than earning a degree; it's breaking through barriers of access, equity and expectation. For diverse learners, it is a testament to resilience, courage and the power of possibility and opportunity," said Erienne Fawcett, Moorhead's coordinator of Gender and Sexuality. We cannot wait to celebrate not just our learners' achievements, but the rewriting of narratives and the opening of doors for generations of future Dragons to come. Sharing identity via their chosen sashes is a beautiful way to connect both to Minnesota State Moorhead and their constellation of unique identities."
The student speaker is Patricia Ladine Dela Cruz Mendoza , a psychology major from Aberdeen, S.D. and a graduate of Roncalli High School.
This month's ceremony includes five multicultural students and two international students.
Moorhead is committed to creating an inclusive and accessible event. If you need a reasonable accommodation to attend this event, please complete the Event Accommodations Form and a staff member will be in touch with you.
