Alachua County Forever (ACF) invites residents to a winter solstice sunset stroll through the marsh at Levy Prairie. The walk is on Friday, Dec. 19, 2025, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Participants will meet at the Levy Loop Trail parking lot (14920 SE 11th Dr., Micanopy).
The trail is flat but unpaved, encircling an open marsh. For this event, the group will walk 45 minutes out and 45 minutes back along the same route to return to the parking lot before dark. All walking speeds are welcome on this casual stroll. Please bring drinking water, wear comfortable shoes, and check the forecast to dress comfortably for the weather.
The winter solstice marks the longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. This time of year holds significance in many cultures as a time to honor the past and look forward to the future. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the creation of Alachua County Forever, the county's land conservation program.
