WASHINGTON - Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) notified the Chief Administrative Officer of the U.S. House of Representatives Thursday that he will decline his congressional salary until the federal government shutdown ends.
"Tennessee's Ninth Congressional District is home to thousands of dedicated federal employees who work every day to keep our country safe, healthy, and moving forward," the letter reads. "These public servants will not receive their paycheck due to no fault of their own. Additionally, thousands of my constituents will likely be impacted by the shutdown. These hardships are in addition to the looming health care crisis. I have made the decision not to accept my pay while so many of my constituents are left in uncertainty."
