Wayne State celebrates another record-breaking Giving Day

On Thursday, April 9, Wayne State University came together in an inspiring display of generosity for its 10th annual Giving Day, the most successful to date. Nearly 2,500 donors contributed over $3 million to support students, faculty, research and programs across more than 100 campus causes, demonstrating the collective impact of the Warrior community.

Wayne State's Giving Day success was driven by alumni, friends, faculty, staff and students who stepped up to support the areas of the university that matter most to them. The celebration began the evening of April 8 at the Henry Ford Museum, where attendees gathered with energy and excitement to kick off the effort. Guests donned green and gold attire, shared their favorite WSU stories and heard from President Richard Bierschbach.

"Our strength as a Wayne State community lies in what we build together. Donations on our 10th annual Giving Day will directly create opportunities for our students, faculty, academic programs, athletic department and so much more," said Bierschbach. "This collective display of generosity and pride highlights a commitment to our shared mission and deep belief in our work as a leading public urban research university. Thank you to all of the Warriors on campus and around the world who helped make this year's Giving Day an incredible success."

Since the first Giving Day in 2017, the Wayne State community has raised over $11.5 million to support people, projects and programs across campus and throughout Detroit. Giving Day is one of many ways the Warrior community advances Wayne State's mission, strengthening the university for future generations.

More than a fundraiser, Giving Day 2026 marked a decade of collective impact. Whether through a gift, sharing a story or encouraging others to get involved, each act of support contributed to the day's success and reflected what it means to be Warrior Strong.
