SACRAMENTO, CA - Today, Assemblymember Damon Connolly (D-San Rafael) honored Amarantha Silva on the Assembly floor as Assembly District 12's Woman of the Year. Amarantha has been a community organizer for Parent Voices Marin for over 10 years, joining back in 2015 while seeking childcare for her son.
"Amarantha's tireless commitment to uplift our underrepresented communities is deserving of this recognition and so much more," said Assemblymember Connolly. "I am proud to recognize her as Assembly District 12's Woman of the Year. Through grassroots organizing and fearless public testimony, she brings the voices of marginalized families into the rooms where decisions are made. At a time when immigrant families face fear and uncertainty, Amarantha ensures that mothers and children are not only protected but empowered. It is an honor to recognize her service."
"I'm deeply grateful to Assemblymember Connolly for naming me District 12's Woman of the Year," said Amarantha Silva. "As an immigrant woman of color and Parent Voices Marin community organizer, I want to honor all the women who paved the way for me. This recognition reflects the collective strength of mothers, organizers, and advocates across California who work every day to challenge unjust systems and uplift our communities. I am more committed than ever to building a future where every family can thrive with love, dignity, justice, and power."
Amarantha has been a strong advocate for marginalized communities and has dedicated herself towards reforming unjust laws deeply rooted in racism and sexism. Through her work, she has also taken leadership in Parent Voices' immigration work as part of the Safety Net 4 All Coalition, fighting for immigrant workers' rights and representation. She has organized parents from across the state to defend immigrant rights by testifying in hearings and attending coalition events.Assemblymember Connolly hosted Amarantha in Sacramento and honored her with a resolution on the Assembly floor.
The Woman of the Year event, in celebration of Women's History Month, allows each member of the California State Legislature to honor an individual from their district for their contributions and accomplishments. The annual event is sponsored by the Women's Caucus and is a fantastic opportunity to formally recognize the remarkable women up and down the state.
