In observance of April as Distracted Driving Awareness Month, the Lincoln Police Department will conduct a Distracted Driving Traffic Enforcement Project from Monday, April 1, through Wednesday, April 30. This enforcement effort will focus on speeding and red light violations, which are two of the most common traffic offenses committed by distracted drivers.
In 2024, officers investigated at least 3,903 crashes where at least one driver was reported to be operating a vehicle in an inattentive, careless, negligent, or erratic manner.
LPD urges drivers to place their phones on "Do Not Disturb" while behind the wheel, stay focused on the road, and obey traffic signals. This project is funded by a grant from our partners at the Nebraska Office of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
