On Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 4 p.m., a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be held at Kiwanis Park (4223 Greenbrier Drive), where a futsal court was recently installed. The community is invited to attend the ceremony and be the first to enjoy this new park feature, along with free cookies and lemonade (while supplies last).
Futsal is a smaller version of soccer, typically played on a hard surface with size dimensions similar to a basketball court. The court will be available to the community at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis. The court was built to be multi-purpose and comes with lighting, fencing, goals, benches, and basketball hoops to allow for all kinds of uses. The total cost of the project was $202,094 before the City fundraised $75,000 in private sponsorships for a net final cost of $127,094.
"With the FIFA World Cup in full swing, there couldn't be a better time to open Bettendorf's first futsal court in our park system," said Parks & Recreation Director John Byrnes. "This multi-court system will be incredibly versatile as it allows kids and adults to play soccer and basketball all year round anytime the surface is dry. Kiwanis Park is the ideal home for this feature, with ample parking, restrooms, a shelter, and other amenities for families to explore!"
One of those amenities, the playground, is also about to undergo renovation. During a Community Input Event in May 2026, parkgoers shared their ideas for what kind of playground they'd like to see. Starting Sunday, July 19, 2026, parkgoers can vote for their favorite concept plan. Click here for more information.
