STORRS, Conn. - UConn Athletics and Aetna®, a CVS Health® company (NYSE: CVS), announced today a new, multi-year partnership that builds on the long-standing relationship between UConn and Aetna and reflects Aetna's broader commitment to supporting women's health and well-being. The partnership names Aetna, headquartered in Hartford, the official jersey badge partner of all UConn's women's Olympic sports programs, bringing the health care company's logo to the uniforms across 11 sports.
Beginning this season, the Aetna logo will be featured on the jerseys of Huskies' women's cross country, field hockey, soccer, volleyball, ice hockey, swimming and diving, track and field, rowing, tennis, softball and lacrosse teams, creating a consistent, year-round brand presence.
"We're excited to welcome Aetna to the UConn Athletics family as the official jersey badge partner of our women's Olympic sports programs," said UConn Director of Athletics David Benedict. "Strong partnerships are essential to creating opportunities for our student-athletes and will help sustain our championship tradition at UConn. Aetna's commitment to women's health issues aligns with the history of excellence among our women's teams and our mission to support the overall well-being of the student-athletes who wear the Husky uniform. Aetna will have a strong presence at many of our athletic events, through the jersey badges and other visible signage at our home basketball games."
In addition to the jersey badge, the partnership will provide opportunities for UConn female student-athletes to collaborate with Aetna through "Team Aetna," featuring one student-athlete from each women's Olympic sport. Team Aetna members will work with Aetna to connect the brand with UConn student-athletes, fans and the broader community through authentic, athlete-driven content across social and digital platforms, while reinforcing the organizations' shared commitment to supporting student health and well-being and advancing Aetna's ongoing work to support women's holistic health.
"Supporting women's health means recognizing the unique needs that women have throughout their lives, including as athletes," said Katerina Guerraz, Aetna Chief Operating Officer and President of Aetna Medicaid. "Through our long-standing partnership with UConn, we have an opportunity to support student-athletes and the broader community, while advancing our commitment to helping people live healthier lives."
Aetna provides health care benefits and services to help millions of people achieve better health and improve their overall health and well-being.
"UConn has built storied and strong success across its women's sports programs, and this partnership gives Aetna a meaningful way to support those teams and the student-athletes who represent the Huskies," said Andrew Wheeler, Executive Vice President of Sports Properties at Learfield. "We're proud to help bring this partnership to life and create opportunities that provide visibility and resources for UConn's women's programs."
The partnership between UConn Athletics and Aetna was facilitated by UConn Sports Properties - the locally based team of Learfield and exclusive multimedia rights holder for UConn Athletics.
