The Michigan Association of Broadcasters has announced that WNMU-FM, Public Radio 90, has received two awards for the 2025 Broadcast Excellence Awards in the categories of Music Feature or Special and Special Interest & Cultural Programming.
WNMU-FM Host Anna Tousley, a student employee at the station, won "Best in Category" for Music Feature for her Holiday Jazz Showcase: Not Your Typical Christmas Show. WNMU-FM Classical Music Host and Producer Kurt Hauswirth won a "Merit" award for the category of Special Interest & Cultural Programming for Windmill Music, a long-form interview with live performances from the band blended throughout the interview.
The Michigan Association of Broadcasters' Broadcast Excellence Awards is a state-wide contest that is divided into commercial and non-commercial radio stations. WNMU-FM competes against all other Michigan Public Radio stations with a budget of $2 million dollars or less.
Tousley is from Lake Orion, Mich. She is a political science major in the Honors program. While serving as a student employee at Public Radio 90, Tousley began working as an on-air host in 2024. Hauswirth has been with the station as a host and producer for the past nine years.
WNMU-FM, Public Radio 90 is a listener supported public service of Northern Michigan University that can be heard throughout the Central Upper Peninsula and Northeast Wisconsin.
