Clarke County Hospital has been recognized among just 384 hospitals nationwide to receive a 5-star overall hospital quality rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the highest rating awarded by the organization.
The recognition was recently highlighted in an article published by Becker's Hospital Review and reflects Clarke County Hospital's strong performance in several important areas of patient care, including patient safety, patient experience, readmission rates, and timely, effective care.
CMS Star Ratings are designed to help patients and families compare hospitals across the country and make informed decisions about where to receive care. Receiving a 5-star rating places Clarke County Hospital among an elite group of hospitals recognized nationally for delivering high-quality care and exceptional patient experiences.
"Receiving a 5-star CMS quality rating is an incredible honor for our organization and our community," said Melanie Boyd, CEO of Clarke County Hospital. "Our physicians, providers, nurses, support staff, leaders, and volunteers are deeply committed to providing safe, compassionate, and personalized care close to home. This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication our team brings to our patients every single day."
The achievement is especially meaningful for Clarke County Hospital as a rural Critical Access Hospital, demonstrating that rural healthcare organizations can continue to meet and exceed national quality standards while serving smaller communities.
Clarke County Hospital continues to invest in patient safety, advanced technology, employee engagement, and expanded access to specialty and preventative healthcare services throughout south-central Iowa. Recent service growth has included expanded behavioral health services, rheumatology care, digestive health services, and continued investments in advanced imaging and diagnostic technology.
"This recognition reinforces our continued commitment to quality improvement and ensuring our patients receive the best possible care close to home," Boyd added.
