Vindman Announces Thousands of Dollars in Funding to Support Law Enforcement and Strengthen Public Safety

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Eugene Vindman (Va.-07) today celebrated the U.S. Department of Justice's (DOJ) award of thousands of dollars in federal funding to communities across Virginia's Seventh Congressional District to strengthen local law enforcement operations and improve public safety.

"As a former prosecutor, I care deeply about ensuring our communities remain safe. That's why I work with local law enforcement to ensure they get the tools and resources they need to do their jobs effectively," said Vindman. "I'm proud to see Virginia's Seventh Congressional District receive this federal funding to strengthen public safety. I'll keep fighting to bring federal resources back home, supporting the dedicated public servants who work every day to respond to emergencies and keep families safe."

All three grants were awarded through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program. Administered by the DOJ's Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), the program provides non-competitive formula grants to support personnel, equipment, training, and technology across the criminal justice system.

Spotsylvania County was awarded $29,500 in funding that will enable the Spotsylvania County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office to purchase up to nine portable, high-performance forensic laptops for the secure and efficient review of large volumes of digital evidence, including social media content, body-worn camera footage, cellphone extractions, and data from other electronic devices.

These specialized laptops are designed to support forensic software and applications, allowing prosecutors to review evidence more effectively and prepare cases more efficiently. The laptops will be assigned to prosecutors to enhance case preparation and litigation.

The City of Fredericksburg was awarded $16,552 in funding, which will allow the city to replace an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) used to patrol the City's watershed, which spans thousands of acres.

The ATV enables officers to efficiently patrol rugged, hard-to-reach areas, including hills, muddy trails, and undeveloped land that are inaccessible to standard patrol vehicles. Replacing the ATV will help improve patrol coverage and support faster response times in remote areas.

Stafford County was awarded $37,657 in funding to enhance public safety, emergency response, and officer safety by purchasing critical equipment for its ATV Team, Traffic Safety and Volunteer Unit, and SWAT Team. It will also support the acquisition of a new all-terrain vehicle to improve search and rescue operations and response in difficult terrain, portable jump starter packs to reduce response times for disabled motorists, and advanced night vision equipment to strengthen tactical operations during low-light incidents.
