After nearly two decades of dedicated service to the campus community, Marilyne Louis officially retired on May 15, 2026, marking the conclusion of an impactful career with Commonwealth University-Lock Haven and Glennon Health Services. This August would have marked her 20th year serving the Lock Haven campus community.
A native of Haiti and a graduate of the physician assistant program at Lock Haven, Louis said her passion for helping others and serving the community always drew her toward the medical field.
Throughout her years at Glennon Health Services, Louis became a familiar and trusted face to countless students, faculty and staff seeking care and support.
"I didn't do brain surgery," Louis said. "But I offered a band aid, spoke words of comfort, gave an excuse at the right moment and dispensed medication when the need was there."
Louis said one of the greatest parts of her journey has been the relationships she built with coworkers across campus. "My wonderful co-workers - nurses, office assistants, housekeepers, supervisors and managers - made this experience special," she said.
She also shared that two former Commonwealth University-Lock Haven students, Gloria Adu and Daphnide St. Vil, became as close to her as daughters during her years on campus - relationships she considers among her most meaningful memories from her career.
Louis leaves behind a legacy of compassion, kindness and dedication to student health and wellbeing, having spent nearly 20 years caring for the Lock Haven campus community, one student at a time.
Louis credits her late parents, Marc and Inès Leonard whom she described as hardworking individuals who strongly believed in education - for helping shape the values that guided her career. She also expressed gratitude to her husband, Dr. Henock Louis, and her children, Henock Jr. and Marc Elie, for their love and support throughout her career.
