Vindman Leads Effort in U.S. House to Ban Live-Streaming of Military Executions in the United States

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Eugene Vindman (Va.-07) today introduced the American Integrity Act to prohibit the live-streaming of executions under the Uniformed Code of Military Justice following President Donald Trump's decision to cancel Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth's plans to broadcast the execution of Nidal Hasan, the perpetrator of the horrific 2009 Fort Hood shooting.

The bill would establish a federal prohibition on live-streaming military executions, ensuring that such broadcasts cannot be authorized by future administrations.

The legislation comes after widespread opposition to the proposal, including from Vindman, who publicly called on Hegseth to reverse course and abandon plans to turn Hasan's execution into a public spectacle.

"Having overseen the post-trial legal proceedings in Nidal Hasan's case, I know firsthand the gravity of his horrific crimes. I believed then, and I believe now, that he should face the fullest consequences of the law," said Vindman. "But there is a fundamental difference between carrying out justice and turning an execution into a public spectacle. Live-streaming executions is what terrorists and authoritarian regimes do. I'm glad the president ultimately reversed course, but we should never have reached this point in the first place. The American justice system must uphold the rule of law and the dignity of our institutions. My legislation will ensure that no future administration can turn an execution into a televised spectacle."

The bill is sponsored by U.S. Representatives Reps. Ro Khanna (Calif.-17), Maggie Goodlander (N.H.-02), and George Whitesides (Calif.-27).
