On April 23, on the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to Canada hosted a concert of Armenian classical and spiritual music at Knox Presbyterian Church in Ottawa, dedicated to the memory of the Holy Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1923.
In her opening remarks Anahit Harutyunyan, Ambassador of Armenia to Canada, underscored the role of Armenian traditional music in preserving the Armenian national identity, traditions, and soul.
The concert featured Marine Chahinian (soprano) and Khachatur Ghazaryan (piano).
A commemoration ceremony was held by His Grace Bishop Abgar Hovakimyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Canada.
The events were also attended by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada, and other state institutions, members of Parliaments from the Canada-Armenia Friendship Group, Ambassadors of different countries, other representatives of accredited diplomatic missions, Reverend Fathers of Armenian Apostolic and Catholic churches, as well as many members of Armenian, Greek, and other communities.
