Southfield Welcomes Alpha Kappa Alpha Community Health Fair October 10

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, the City of Southfield is pleased to welcome "Champion Your Wellness: Take Charge of Your Health," a free community health fair hosted by the Pearls of Service Foundation and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Pi Tau Omega Chapter, in partnership with Henry Ford Health.

The event will take place Saturday, October 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Southfield Pavilion, 26000 Evergreen Road. The fair will connect residents with preventive screenings, medical professionals, health education and community resources.

The Henry Ford Anthony Soave Mobile Mammography Screening Center will provide mammography screenings for women age 40 and older without a prior breast condition. No appointment is required, and participants will be served in order of arrival. Most insurance plans are accepted, and assistance will be available for uninsured women.

Henry Ford Health professionals will also provide height, weight, body mass index and glucose screenings. Attendees will have opportunities to consult with specialists in dermatology, podiatry, cardiology and oncology, along with diabetes educators.

A special panel discussion will explore GLP-1 medications, including common myths, facts and potential risks and benefits. Community health and human service organizations will share information about available programs and resources. The event will also feature vendors, food trucks, prizes and other activities.

The City encourages residents to take advantage of this opportunity to prioritize their health and connect with resources for themselves and their families.

Admission is free and open to the public. For additional information, email [email protected].
