Fresno Pacific University honors its roots during Heritage Week

Fresno Pacific University will honor its Anabaptist and Mennonite Brethren roots during Heritage Week, holding two events on January 28, 2026. Both events will feature special guest Johann Matthies, Ph.D.

Chapel

At 10:50 a.m., Chapel will take place in the Special Events Center on the FPU main campus, 1717 S. Chestnut Ave., Fresno. Matthies will share stories and insights from a life dedicated to mobilizing people and agencies who seek to summon all to Radical Discipleship. This event is open to all and is free to attend; no tickets are needed.

Community Luncheon

Matthies will also join local church and community leaders for a special luncheon. The luncheon will take place from 12:00-1:30 p.m. in the BC Lounge, located within North Hall at the FPU main campus. This event is open to all local church and community members and is free to attend; however registration is required as seating is limited. Those interested can register at fpu.edu/heritage2026.

Johann Matthies

Johann Matthies is an FPU alumnus (MA '93, BA '89) and currently serves as Multiply's (formerly MB Mission) regional team leader for Europe and Central Asia. In this role, he provides direction for ministry in this region and mobilizes regional and global partners, churches and schools for world mission. He is also a member of the International Community of Mennonite Brethren (ICOMB) and serves as a representative for the Alliance of Evangelical Churches in Germany.
