'Beyond Society', the documentary series created by J.A. Bayona and Carlos Torres, arrives on Netflix on December 18
THE DOCUMENTARY SERIES WILL HAVE ITS GLOBAL PREMIERE IN OFFICIAL SELECTION AT THE SAN SEBASTIÁN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
Beyond Society , the documentary series created by J.A. Bayona and Carlos Torres that explores what happened after the survivors of Flight 571 were rescued from the Andes, will premiere globally on Netflix on December 18 .
The project, directed by Carlos Torres and produced by J.A. Bayona , Sandra Hermida , and Belén Atienza , picks up where the film Society of the Snow leaves off. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival, won twelve Goya Awards, and received two Academy Award nominations, including Best International Feature Film. It also won the Audience Award in the Perlak section of the 2023 San Sebastián International Film Festival. This non-fiction series explores what happened after the rescue, when the survivors returned home and reunited with the families of those who did not make it back.
The three-episode documentary series is a gripping account that brings together, for the first time, the testimonies of the accident survivors, the families of those who did not return , authors Piers Paul Read ( Alive ) and Pablo Vierci ( Society of the Snow ), and the filmmakers who have brought this story to the big screen, including Frank Marshall ( Alive ) and J.A. Bayona himself ( Society of the Snow ).

Whilst silence reigned amongst those directly involved, the rest of the world continued to try to understand what had happened through books, films and documentaries.
