Governor Pritzker Announces $50 Million Rebuild Illinois Grant Program to Support Community Health Centers in Illinois

Funding supports the construction and renovation of community healthcare facilities across the state

Springfield - Governor JB Pritzker announced today a $50 million grant opportunity is available through the Rebuild Illinois Capital Program. The funding will support the Community Health Center Construction Grants for Federally Qualified Health Centers and look-alikes at a time when the Trump administration is cutting critical healthcare funding.

The grant opportunity expands access to healthcare services by facilitating the construction or renovation of community-based health care facilities, especially for centers in underserved and rural areas.

"While the federal government strips essential healthcare funding from communities in need, Illinois is stepping up to support accessible, high-quality healthcare for families across the state," said Governor JB Pritzker. "With these Rebuild Illinois grants, providers will have the opportunity to enhance their facilities, improve care for their communities, and support our state's tireless efforts to fight against healthcare disparities. I encourage all eligible community health centers to apply for this critical funding."

The Capital Development Board, in collaboration with the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), will administer the Community Health Center Construction Grants, which give eligible providers the opportunity to apply for up to $3 million in capital improvement funding to enhance patient care and access, expand facility capacity, or update healthcare infrastructure.

"Rebuild Illinois not only supports new and improved infrastructure but also ensures communities in need have access to essential services," said Capital Development Board Executive Director, TJ Edwards. "These capital investments continue to provide Illinoisians with equitable and reliable facilities that will improve health outcomes."

Community Health Centers provide primary and preventative care to Illinois residents, regardless of a patient's ability to pay. The Community Health Center Construction Grant Program aligns with state efforts to reduce healthcare disparities and modernize facilities offering care.

"Community health centers are among the most important tools we have to ensure equitable access to care for all Illinoisans," said IDPH Director Dr. Sameer Vohra. "Thanks to the leadership of Gov. Pritzker and the Illinois General Assembly, more people will be able to obtain these essential services, making our communities and all of us safer and healthier."

Previous projects funded through the Community Health Center Construction Grant have purchased and renovated existing buildings to create additional medical exam rooms and multi-chair dental clinics, renovated clinics to expand laboratory space, installed new electronic signage, and replaced facility roofs. More information about the Community Health Center Construction Grant and eligibility requirements can be found within the online grant application.
