Pemex CEO oversees progress in hydrocarbon collection in the Pantepec River, Veracruz

  • 345,000 liters of crude oil have been recovered thanks to the installation of 230 oil-absorbent booms and 22 marine barriers

The CEO of Petróleos Mexicanos, Dr. Víctor Rodríguez Padilla, supervised the work being undertaken to contain and retrieve the oil spilled into the Citlaltépetl stream, at the junction where it joins the Pantepec-Tuxpan river, and visited the area affected by an oil leak in the Poza Rica-Madero pipeline, which has now been sealed and is back in operation.

A total of 750 workers from Pemex, other agencies, and six companies are currently involved in these efforts. More than 80 land and sea vehicles, four self-contained breathing apparatus systems, two skimmer systems, and 13 backhoes are being used, all of which are operating under strict safety protocols and technical supervision. Twenty-two marine barriers and 230 oil-absorbent booms have also been installed.

Thanks to this efficient coordination, progress has been made in recovering 345,000 liters of crude oil, as well as in protecting communities and protecting the surrounding ecosystems.

Pemex reaffirms its commitment to the safety of the population, the protection of the environment, and immediate response to emergencies, and will continue to monitor the situation until the cleanup and remediation operations in the affected area have been completed.
